We want this site to work for everyone, including people using screen readers, keyboard navigation or magnification.
This statement describes where we stand, what we have done, and what we know is still imperfect. It was last reviewed in September 2026.
Conformance
Target
We aim to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA. We believe most of the site meets it; the known gaps are listed below rather than hidden.
What we have implemented
- A skip-to-content link as the first focusable element on every page
- A single
<h1>per page and a logical heading order - Visible focus indicators on every interactive element, never removed
- Semantic landmarks —
header, nav, main, footer - Alt text on every meaningful image, and empty alt on decorative ones
- Form labels tied to their inputs, with errors announced rather than shown by colour alone
- Full keyboard operation of menus, the chat assistant, the file drop zones and the workbench
prefers-reduced-motionhonoured — all animation is disabled for users who ask for that- Text that reflows to 320px width without horizontal scrolling
- Colour never used as the only way of conveying information
Known gaps
We would rather list these than claim full conformance:
- The charts in the results visualiser convey information visually. Every chart is accompanied by a sortable data table with the same numbers, but the charts themselves are not independently accessible to screen readers.
- Some third-party icon fonts inherited from the original site template do not expose accessible names in every context; we are replacing them progressively.
- Heading levels skip in places. The site template uses a small heading as a decorative label above section titles, which produces a jump such as h3 to h5. The text is still meaningful and programmatically available, but the nesting is not strictly sequential. Fixing it properly means reworking the inherited theme stylesheet, which we would rather do carefully than hastily.
- The site has not yet been formally audited by an external accessibility specialist or tested with a full range of assistive technologies.
